So I was involved with a guy a year and a half ago for about 6 months and we had regular sex. He moved for work and we eventually parted ways for about a year up until recently. He now has moved back to my city and we've rekindled conversation and the same type of relationship as before. But he was upfront and has since told me that he contracted HPV from a brief encounter with a woman after we stopped seeing each other. He said he noticed a small group of warts and got checked out immediately and claims he had a non serious strain that doesn't cause cancer and has been dealt with. Although he has mentioned to me that for the past 4 months or so (since he found out) he has not been sexually active to be safe but was told by the nurse that treated him he won't be contagious anymore as long as it's protected sex but it's considered completely gone after a year. He understands that I feel VERY tentative regarding sex with him from here on. Does anyone know if there's a way to test for hpv like other stds and have any info on hpv? If I had protected sex (with a condom) what are my chances of contracting it? Would it be safe at all? Has anyone gotten vaccinated and can tell me a little more about it? I know there's always Google but you know how that goes. Much appreciated!
