Just a thought

I'm originally from Colombia and recently I moved to the US, here I've noticed something really interesting when filling out forms to apply to college and to take the SAT, etc. I noticed that in every single form they ask what you identify with ( white, black, Hispanic, Asian...) something that they never ask in my country when you fill out similar forms. Also I noticed that in the news the headlines sometimes are "A white male murdered someone", "A black male stole something" like always mentioning what group or ethnicity that person belongs to. I find this really interesting and I want to know your thoughts on this and if you think this somehow contributes to the problems whe have been witnessing recently. Also, I hope I don't offend someone with any of this, I'm just really curious and I want to know if you think maybe if we stopped classifying everyone so much things would change?
