6 weeks, should I feed him rice cereal?

I was told by my doctor to mix baby formula with rice cereal to treat my sons acid reflux and colics. How many of you ladies have heard of this and has it worked? Please help! He will be 7 weeks in a couple of days. He cries all the time, and I can hear his stomach grumble. I can tell he's in pain in the way he cries it breaks my heart! Help please

I'm a pediatric nurse in a major hospital.  Adding rice to the bottle is something we do for some babies with acid reflux. It's perfectly safe to do at this age.  The thought is that it is thicker and heavier so it won't be as likely to cause reflux.

i would always trust a doctor.
and if you do some research and reading on your own, you'll see that most of the "anti-colic" formulas actually have starch or rice cereal in it, which makes them thicker. 
just make sure to adjust the flow of the bottle if you see your baby having difficulties with thicker formula. 
however, slight constipation is a common side effect, so don't be too alarmed.

My daughter has been having baby oatmeal mixed in her breast milk for 2 weeks in the NICU for her reflux. It helped her almost instantly. 
She didn't show any signs of pain but she would have oxygen desaturations and occasionally would drop her heart rate when she would eat because she was closing off her airway to stop herself from spitting up.
The small amount of baby oatmeal made her milk just thick enough to stay down.

My sister did with my nephew.  It helped him so much!  Baby will be fine.  Just make sure you follow his directions.  You gotta do what's best for your baby!

Its perfectly safe .. you will find if you look up some of the reflux formulas like enfamil AR its just formula premixed with rice cereal to make it thicker . Works great .. also after feedings you shouldnt lay baby flat for 45 minutes to an hour keep them at a 45° angle

I dont think its a good idea. Try a different formula. Lactose free worked for us, we had the same problem, he was crying a lot after eating too. Turns out he cant digest lactose properly.

My doctor  told me  to do the  same  thing but it's making  my 6 week old baby  constipated...

I don't think it's a good idea. It is waaay too early to start feeding your baby anything other than milk. Try the probiotic drops. Try baths and swaddling. If his stomach is growling, it might be gas related. Some babies have really severe cases of gas. Try gripe water and gas drops as well.

I hope you have someone to relieve you with your baby's care. I can't even imagine how exhausted and out of it you are.
