How does everyone know their baby's weight?

Is it weird that I will not be able to know how much my baby weighs until he is born? (Even an estimation) I'm 27 weeks right now. My doctor says that because I'm young and the pregnancy has been going well that the only things we will be doing in the appointments from now on will be fundus measurement and the doppler. I'm just confused because it seems as though other woman my age still have at least one sono in their third trimester to check on fetal weight and postion before birth, and yes I know sonograms are not 100% accurate. Just curious.

I'm like you. They don't have a reason to do an ultrasound right now, so they will just keep measuring my belly and listening to the heart beat. 
There are some doctors who order third trimester scans as part of their normal practice, but most ultrasounds in the third are for women who have or have had some health concerns and they'd just like to see how baby is coming along. They check for growth, and at that point give an estimate on weight.

It's the norm to only get two ultrasounds if it's a normal pregnancy- one dating scan and then the 20 week scan. I know a lot of women on here have an issue that arises and they need another one, or they just have doctors who do more!

My doctor would guess my baby's weight using his hands to feel my belly. He said an experienced doctor is about as accurate as an ultrasound for weight estimation. At my 39 week appointment he guessed baby weighed 6.5 pounds. She was born five days later weighing in at 6pounds 11 ounces. :)

I had a scan at 23 weeks, and they told me that would be my last for a while. It makes sense because the baby is developing normally so far so the don't need to do more. I believe they'll do more scans once you get to the point where you have your weekly visits. They'll need to check fluid levels as birth gets closer. At least that's how it sounded to me. Maybe it was just a miscommunication?

They never said anything about my babyes weight at any ultrasound. She was 9 and a half pounds! They told my sister in law she would have a very big baby and she was 7 pound.....

There is no reason in a normal pregnancy to get any sonograms but the two that are often done are the daring scan and the 20 week abnormality scan. I only had one to check on my giant ovary so I had no expectations about weight but I wouldn't have believed them anyway. They can be off by two pounds!
