Pumping?

Hi- my son is 4 days old today and my milk came in last night. I've been nursing him
On demand but I'm in pain so I pumped one side. 
I pumped 4 ounces from one side- is this normal? Is there more in there? How often do I need to pump to avoid becoming engourged? It really hurts to just do nothing- plus they leak. 
Any tips would be appreciate. I have zero clue what I'm doing.

If you pump do it just for relief. Pumping more than an ounce will signal to your body to make more and may cause an oversupply issue which will only engorge your breasts even more.

Don't over pump! You might over supply. But, engorgement in the first week is normal. Also, babies are able to work the breast in a way that pumping cannot. Babies are able to get more milk then the pump.

Random but we had our babies the same day!!! Did your home birth work out? Also, I'm having the exact same issue with nursing so I'm following this haha I'm clueless.

I did that.. I'd feed one side n pump one side.. After a few weeks the body kinda adjusted and now I produce the same amount of milk without engorgement.. Give it some time n pump it out when it hurts n store it.

You should pump or feed every 2-3 hours. After a couple weeks it will be less painful but make sure to be feeding regularly to keep your supply up

I squeezed a little milk onto my nipple for my daughter to lap up and just repeated until she got bored or latched on.

You might cause an oversupply but that's much easier to deal with than an undersuoply so don't worry about that yet and pump if it makes you feel better. Also you can let baby nurse more often so that your breasts get emptied a little at a time and don't get quite so engorged.
