Maternity photos?

Clarissa • Mama
Okay- I'm not shaming anyone who gets maternity photos done and I'm not trying to be offensive so please don't feel that way. I honestly just want to know if it's something I may be upset if I skip out on them.
I do not understand maternity photos. This is my first baby so I've not experienced "life after pregnancy" yet- is that something that will make me want too see what I looked like?
Who are the pictures for? Like do you just keep them in a box/on a USB for when you personally feel like looking at them or do you break them out at parties/send them it to family and friends?
I just don't know that I want to reminisce on this time. I've been really sick and it definitely shows in my face. I've had people tell me (my husband included) that I look almost deathly sometimes (it's out of love and concern). I also have scars on my belly from surgeries so I don't feel comfortable with an "exposed belly" shot.
Is this something that I'm going to be upset about if I don't do? We have decided that this baby will be the only one that I am pregnant for because I have had such a difficult time (I'm 24y/o and 25 weeks-still sick and having awful symptoms).
Do you think I might regret not having photos? Any "seasoned" mom's out there with some advice for me?
I just feel that you are all so confident- taking bump pics, selfies, and the whole like. I am a confident person, but right now I just don't know that I want to have to see what I looked like.
I have also never asked my mom for any pictures of her when she was pregnant with me, so I'm not sure that that is something my daughter will even want?
Why are you taking maternity photos? Why aren't you taking maternity photos?
Again, I'm not trying to shame anyone, I truly just want to understand.
Thanks ladies!
