birth control pills and Acne

Last year i was on Accutane for cystic acne i was supposed to take it for 5-6 months but i stopped the treatment myself at the end of my 2nd month. My skin was completely beautiful with just those 2 months of treatment. I wanted to start accutane again now but can't due to having a recent breast reduction surgery about 3 months ago. Lately i've started breaking out again specially during and after my periods. I've never been on birth control but i was told that birth control can help with my acne since it might be hormonal. Is there any specific brand that will help? Or is this a complete lie?
