I need some advice, ladies!

So, I'm 23 my husband is 26, we live in an apartment and we both have wonderful jobs. We've run into an issue that we can't get approved for a home due to his commission based job (even though he makes great money!) because they require 2 years of commission based job history. (He only has 8/10 months in this position.)
Basically, we've decided we want to begin our TTC Journey in December and begin building our family.
My parents are really pushing for us to get into a home prior to having children, but we honestly don't want to wait another full year+ before we can start trying. We want to enjoy our family and not be "old" when our child is still young. We want to be able to retire someday & enjoy our "older years".
Any words of wisdom? Advice? Opinions?
My co-worker says we should just tell everyone it was an "accident", "whoops", but then I'm afraid everyone will think we were being irresponsible.
I'm just not sure what to do 😫
