Continue to speak, or let it go?

So I've been talking to this guy since July, that I met through social media. We really connected and we've been planning to finally meet face to face in November.
Unfortunately he is in the military and found out yesterday that he is going to be deployed  in 2 weeks, and will be gone overseas for the next 6 months. I'm completely heartbroken, I was so looking forward to meeting him and building a relationship, as he was too. 
Now I don't know what to do? He says he still wants to talk, and I really, really care for him deeply and don't want to lose what we've developed so far. Should I just give up, and get on with my life, or continue to speak when we can for the next 6 months?

I say continue talking to him, just don't limit yourself to just him if things aren't serious.

Coming from someone who's in the military, if I was single and said that stuff to you just know I actually mean it. He seems very interested in you and a lot of guys are not willing to give two shits about still wanting to be with someone especially if they are going on deployments. Just know that certain MOSs do sometimes make it difficult to communicate, he might not be able to talk to you but at certain times or you might not talk for weeks and sometimes he might have to go on short notice and not be able to talk to you about why or where he's going. It's not easy but I promise if y'all are both willing to stick to each other things WILL work out for y'all! Me and my husband are both active duty Army, before getting married we dated for 5 years and some change ( the last 2 years have been spent serving and we haven't seen each other but on holidays)

I was put in a similar situation earlier this year. I met this amazing Marine man through our mutual group of friends. He was being re-stationed back in CA from being stationed back east for a year plus. We started talking towards the end of his leave. I figured it wouldn't go anywhere so I ask him if he wanted to just pick things up once he got back from his deployment. He asked me why? I want us to continue to talk and get to know each other. About four months later, he got deployed (I knew about it when we first started talking). On the day of his deployment, he asked me to be his girlfriend. We've been together since. Yes, the deployment is an adjusting period for you and him but if you two really care about each other you will make it through. Honestly, I fell in love with him over the deployment. We grew closer. Though we are still growing, I don't regret anything. I look back on it and realized if I didn't give it a chance, I would have closed the door on one of my blessings. Sorry for the long response lol but give it a shot love. You have nothing to loose.

Give it a chance if you're both earnest. I met my husband at his going away party! 4 days later, he was in Singapore for a year for work. It was crazy but we used technology and made each other a priority. After that, he was in Dubai for 8 months. He limited his business travel to North America afterward, we bought a place together, happily married for 3 years now and expecting our first child in Feb 💙 So you never know what can happen!
