How to avoid getting a UTI?

I have had a few UTIs in the past 7 months. I just went to the gynecologist today and was advised to eat healthier and take cranberry supplements. She also advised me to take other medicines to prevent it. But I'm concerned with the sex itself. Are there any positions that are better for preventing infection? Any other tips? I really don't want another infection. It hurts and causes me to not be able to have sex for two weeks cause of the antibiotics.

Edit: I DO pee right after sex. Forgot to mention that.

I used to get them all the time! It helps to go to the bathroom after sex and also my doctor advised me to cut down on my caffeine intake..she said it doesn't cause the uti's but it can be making it worse. I haven't had any issues since I cut back on my caffiene.

There is no way to avoid a uti with sex except peeing right after. What happens during sex is the bacteria from the skin can get transferred to your urethra(where you pee from). Peeing after sex flushes that bacteria out. Some people are just prone to uti's as well. I happen to be one of them. I pee after sex all the time but i get them at least 2-3 times a year sometimes more.
