What to expect with an IUD

I get mine tomorrow and I'm kinda nervous.
I don't know really what to expect.

My doctor gave me two tylenols before I got my iud inserted. Let's just say they'll use this tool to open up your vagina, the usual tool they use when you go to the gynaecologist. They insert this small t-shaped device in your uterus. In order to do this, they make you cough so that your cervix will open up a little bit for insertion. The pain is uncomfortable I'd say it was a 7/10, it was a heavy cramping sensation I've  experienced, it's like getting heavy cramps on your period. After that, they'll make you wear a maxi-pad for excessive blood and fluids to come out. It was very uncomfortable to walk after that.

My advice is definitely to eat beforehand and take ibuprofen or Tylenol about 30 minutes to an hour before. There really isn't a way to prepare, I can say that the pain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Also, if you can take the day to rest afterwards I definitely recommend that. The  worst part for me was the sounding but the pain from that lasted maybe 10 seconds.
