how long does your newborn nurse?

Little man is 5 days old today! Breastfeeding is going pretty good. It's not easy but I refuse to give up so that's keeping me motivated. 
Question though? How long does a normal newborn nurse? 
Sometimes mine will nurse only 5-8 minutes then other times he will nurse 15-20. Is is bad when he has short feedings?

My son was the same. He would sometimes nurse for only a few minutes on each side and sometimes it was never ending (30 minutes or more on each side) i just followed the general guidelines of letting him nurse until he stopped and I nursed on command. When we went for his 2 week checkup he was back up to birthweight and overtime he started to become more regular about his feedings. He is now 7 weeks old and nurses on each side for 8-10 minutes

My nurse said 15 minutes on each boob, every 2-3 hours. I was able to get my daughter on a schedule while we were in the hospital

Mine nurses the same, sometimes short sometimes long, I just kind of let him dictate.

He's a comfort nurser for sure...

When they are so little just let them dictate how long and when to nurse

As long as the baby is gaining weight at each doctor's visit, how long your baby feeds is indicated by the baby.
