Debilitating period!

My periods literally cripple me!

I have two children and can barely get out of bed from the combination of pain and bleeding profusely. For 3 days of the usually-week-long duration of my periods, I honestly can't do anything without being doubled over in agony.

I have a husband who cannot take off even a day from work to help me during the period, and I am at wits end trying to figure out what to do.

I can't take the pain alone anymore,& his job threatens to write him up and even fire him despite me actually having a medical issue each month.

Is there anything I can do? I was thinking of trying a birth control that stops the period altogether, or at least trying one offering 4 periods a year.

Does anyone have experience with this? Will birth control help?
