Getting ready to deliver my 1 1/2 pound baby girl

Heather

I'm asking for lots of prayers and/or positive thoughts. I was admitted to the hospital last night at 26 weeks 3 days for extreme swelling and high blood pressure. It spiked to 183/108. After IV blood pressure meds, my daughter's heart rate dropped and a team of nurses rushed in to get her stabilized. I was told that I would not be carrying to full term and will deliver between 37 and 39 weeks.

This morning, I was told by my high risk doctor that I have pre-eclampsia and would not be leaving the hospital. Maci Rose would be delivered between 27 and 28 weeks, as apposed to the original plan.

A couple hours later, we got a new game plan. I am severely pre-eclamptic and will be having a C-section tomorrow morning. My goal has always been to deliver vaginally, but plans change. We will check her again in the morning to see if she flips head down. Otherwise, off to surgery we go. It is not safe to try and flip her at this stage.

The NICU team will be in this afternoon to discuss the plan of action and answer any questions. They will also be talking about a clinical trial that I have the option for Maci to participate in. It is for premature babies to avoid intubating. There were 2 previous groups. Each group had 8 babies participating. She would be in group 3, also with 8 babies. My husband and I are very open to the idea but are still deciding. We're just trying to wrap our heads around everything right now.

I know we're in very good hands with this staff. I am confident in their abilities. I just wish I was more prepared.

My parents are currently vacationing in Europe and I cannot contact them until they connect to WiFi.

My house isn't done being built yet.

I have very few things for her so far.

I haven't had a baby shower yet.

I feel so unprepared!

I am, surprisingly, taking this all much better than expected. I have my moments of breaking down, but I just try to process everything the best I can.

Sorry for the rant. (I'm blaming the meds and hormones!)

Thank you (in advance) for all the encouraging thoughts.

Maci Rose will join us 10.14.16
