Thanksgiving after a C-section?

Hey mom's, I need opinions. I'm having a C-section on November 11th, and my husbands family is still expecting us to attend Thanksgiving. I'm not anticipating that I will be up to dealing with 12+ people that soon after surgery, not to mention having my newborn around a bunch of people dieing cold and flu season. Asking people not to hold my baby isn't really an option with my husbands family. I'm a FTM, so I fully understand that I may be completely paranoid, but I wanted your opinions.

C-section or not, will you be doing Thanksgiving this year? Am I way over reacting about not wanting my baby around a bunch of people?

I'm sorry but you saying that it's not an option for his family is ridiculous, it's your baby and your rules. If you're not comfortable with something then don't do it.
I'm not scheduled a c section, but my in laws know that we will not be driving an hour plus a few weeks after birth with a bunch of people wanting to touch my baby and not listening to me about washing hands, flu shots, ect

I think being "expected" to go is a bit much. I'm sorry. They should give you a choice.

My first was born 6 days before thanksgiving. No c-section and we had everyone over for dinner. I did absolutely nothing and my family prepared dinner. Everyone held the baby.

My second is due a couple of days after thanksgiving but we will have him early. This year's plans won't be made until we know I'll deliver and how I'll be feeling. A couple of years that rock the boat aren't all that painful.

If I were having a csection, I would skip going to someone's house. Yes, you are having baby before thanksgiving, but with a csection you just don't know how you will be feeling. You need to have this conversation with your husband and he needs to back you up.

About the baby. Let people help. Let people hold the baby. Trust me you will need this. I know it's VERY hard as a FTM. But let go of some of the control. You cannot and will not control everything. And having rested arms is good for you.

I don't blame you. I am due on Thanksgiving but, in the event I have the baby earlier, I don't want to be around anyone for the holiday!

I'm having a c section on 11/11 as well(#2)..my family is 3 hours away and they all know we are NOT attending and do not want anyone here either..same for Christmas. It is not unreasonable as baby will be less than 3 weeks and flu season has kicked off early. Plus you'll be recovering from surgegry(it's not that bad) and trying to get a handle on your new bundle of joy...focus on you and baby. They'll always be next Thanksgiving and other times to visit.

I don't think your paranoid at all. After the csection and newborn you it might be too much for you. I'm scheduled for Nov 8th and I don't know if I'm going it all depends on how I feel.

Having a csection nov 3rd and family is planning to come to us. Not too worried, but thankful to be in the comforts of our home through that time of new and healing.

I was concerned about the same thing! I'm a ftm and had a pep talk on here and people were saying that this was my and my SO's kid so we make the decisions and they were right! As much as I love his large family, I'm only letting the grandparents hold him so that means his younger siblings and everyone else will have to wait. Some of them already assumed that I'm going to be up and going by thanksgiving even though I'm due the 19th but I will (firmly) be staying home. The only thing I absolutely can't stand is when people tell me not to worry so much because nothing happened with their kid and their kid never got sick. But seriously, it's your choice. Do what you feel comfortable with :)

I havent decided yet. I am having a csection Nov 7 and we always go to my sisters on holidays. I have an 8 yo and i dont want to disrupt her holiday schedule so we probably will go. I'll just have to monitor my family because i cant tell my sisters and mom not to hold the baby ( i mean i CAN but im not lol ) i trust that theyre up to date on their shots and stuff

I'd say you'll see how you're feeling and leave it at that. If you recover slowly you won't want to. If you recover quickly you may decide to. I know my dr won't let me in the car more than a 30 minute ride the first two weeks home (I'll be in the hospital for four days so now we're almost three weeks out from surgery) and no driving at all or riding more than an hour until after six weeks.

My baby was due 11/20 but she's coming 10/25. If I had her in Nov I'd be skipping it too. It's a RCS. And where we go it never fails every year the two hosts her a stomach virus And hole up in their rooms while I cook. No way I'd risk that this year.

I could have this baby at any time according to my doc and we still don't plan on going anywhere for thanksgiving. We usually go to spend it with my bf's family but they won't respect me enough to not smoke around us and the other kids are bad as hell and I don't want to have to deal with them with a newborn. We will be spending it at our home making our own traditions.
