can a 3 week old sleep on her side?

Hello! My baby girl is 3 weeks old and though she can't turn to the side by herself, she tends to prefer sleeping or napping sideways... if I try laying her flat on her back she feels uncomfortable and hardly sleeps.. it's been like this since a week.. is this normal? Is it safe? Is Anyone else's baby like this? Please advice...

It is not recommended for babies to sleep on their sides or belly until they're old enough to roll over themselves which is typically 4 or 5 months. Before then there is risk of SIDS/suffocation.

My 4 month old sleeps on her stomach she's refused to sleep on her back since we brought her home at 3 weeks old. We tried everything and she still wasn't having it. She is just fine. They are always changing which way is best for them anyways. My mother told me I slept on my stomach as a baby also. So it's whatever you feel more comfortable with. My pediatrician also said it was fine.

The nurses put my nephew on his side in the hospital right after he was born..as long as the baby is supported it's fine. My LO has been rolling herself to the side since she was about a week old...we bed share and she sleeps against me so I know she's safe.

My LO would roll herself on her side whenever we put her in her bassinet starting at 4 days old.. she just prefers to sleep that way sometimes.

It's typically way more comfortable for them. When they are in the womb they are curved and hunched over...so laying flat on their back hurts their spine.

It's not recommended because it's considered a suffocation risk, but they change the standard every few years anyways.
