OB not respecting your wishes? (being railroaded into a c-section)
Has anyone else had this happen?
So, I'm high risk and I see a regular OB group as well as a high risk (maternal fetal specialists) group. I love the high risk group, they are very calm and reassuring. Every specialist within the group that I've seen have been completely okay with my preference to try a vaginal labor. My neurosurgeon also suggested that a vaginal labor would be better for me, and even wrote up a letter saying so. He personally spoke with my high risk doctor and they all are in agreement.
Well, my regular OB group has been a different story. From day one they have been pushing for a c-section. They see that I'm high risk and panic, immediately wanting to cut me open. They don't even fully understand my complicated case. One of the doctors rolled his eyes and showed his frustration with the fact that the high risk OBs are the ones who decide how to proceed. Well the last visit I had I told him that I'm going to bring my neurosurgeon's recommendation to him next time I see him, and unless the recommendation was different then I want a vaginal birth. I thought he understood and we were all on the same page.
Today at almost 32weeks I get a call from their office saying that they have scheduled my c-section. I said "excuse me?!" I insisted that's not what my specialists have suggested and she said "well you're going to have to bring proof if you want anything other then a c-section." It's my choice, right?!? Why do I have to prove that it's okay for me to make a decision?!? And my other doctors who are well versed on my complications agree with me!!
I'm fuming. 😡
