a rash put me into labor and possibly a medical journal
Ok maybe not a medical journal lol. My due date was October 4th. Two weeks before hand I developed a small cluster of blisters on my lower belly underneath my belly button. Didn't think anything of it- thought I might have scratched myself- looked similar to a jelly fish sting or nail scratches. Then it was on a small patch on each side of my hips- on the stretch marks... PUPPS right... nope... boom next morning full blown blister type of rash all over my bottom legs, ankles, knees, feet, toes, elbows, wrists and hands. It felt like a swam in a pool of poison oak and then dried off on a red ant hill. The itching was constant. I looked like Freddy krugers face all over my body. Some blisters seeped a clear fluid, some just turned into blood blisters. I saw my OB, she thought it was some type of soriasis or eczema and put me on cortisone topicals and a medrol dose pack- didn't touch a thing.. day by day it spread to my back, underneath my breasts, arm pits. It only felt good to scratch but scratching made it worse and I couldn't stop- I even cut off all my nails- and resorted to a wire brush..😔 I made it to my due date spent the night in the hospital- the doctor on call- and nurses- CNA all came with their friends to visit and see me and the rash which was labeled the worst case they have ever seen. The OB said he had seen it once but not as bad- it's called gestational pemphigoid- the dermis and epidermis layers of my skin were separated by blisters- my skin became an autoimmune disorder that happens very rare in pregnancy- in my itching delirium I aware a nurse said I had an allergy to my placenta- I was also given ambien- I haven't slept for days and my blood pressure was high. Well they sent me home🙄 next day I went straight to the OB and begged to be induced- I couldn't take another day of this hell. They induced me that afternoon- with a balloon- slept with it in- next morning they extracted the balloon- I was dilated to a 3, OB broke my water at 8 am, put a bunch of monitors up my hooha and contractions started to get worse and worse.
I really wanted to deliver naturally so for hours and hours my contractions were up and down- ever where they needed to be- and I only dilated to a 6 and would not progress. I finally got and epidural but I still felt everything in my vagina- even the cathiter. We tried every ball method and position to progress- but unfortunately after 35 hours and a final check from the OB on call- my daughter was sunny side up and a C section was the only way. I was devastated evause I went through so much. But I was exhausted. I had the c section- in which my daughter ended up being a lot bigger then they expected- and completely cutt off my bladder function- it was as big as my baby's head- in a desperate attempt to drain my bladder and pull my daughter out my husband couldn't hold it together. I was in and out of it- and my daughter had too much fluid in her lungs. All I remember is shaking so violently and worrying about my daughter- telling my husband to follow her and I would be fine. I don't think I have ever seen him cry before.. or be so scared. I finally got to recovery and held my daughter skin to skin for the first time.. what a feeling. All the suffering went away. And she crawled straight to my Brest and latched.
Most wonderful feeling of overwhelming love
Spent a few days in the hospital- rash only present while my body was still swollen- I'm a week now from delivery and rash is almost completely gone. I had to go to a dermatologist and get a few biopsies and some stitches. The OB and dermatologist want to make sure the rash is what everyone suspected it to be. And even the dermatologist said it was the worst case she has ever seen of this... crazy huh. This is my story.. can't wait to read everyone else's!
