Painting a crib???

Question

I recently bought a crib off of Craigslist and I'm super in love with it! I feel like it was a steal at $40 😄 It doesn't really need painted it is in pretty good shape but I would like to paint it a different color. I was hoping someone would have some advice or even experience.  My questions are... 
(1) if it is safe and a good / bad idea? 
(2) what kind of paint / paint brand to use? 
(3) suggestions on colors ( I'm having a boy!)

Yes you can paint it but it will be a pain in the butt! :) strip the finish, lightly sand, paint/seal. I'd be comfortable using any low- or no-VOC paint. You can put teething guards over the rails to protect the baby & paint finish. Just make sure the crib gets aired out really well before baby comes--same with the crib mattress!

As for colors, I like a really dark glossy grey, classic white, or you could make the crib a statement piece by going with a bright color (kelly green, cobalt blue, yellow).

I did this recently!!! It is safe but you want to make sure to get a low VOC or zero VOC paint. I went to a paint store and told them what I wanted to do. If the crib is a cheap crib that's pressed wood (mine was) then you want to make sure you tell them you need a sticky primer to adhere paint to non solid wood finishes. Clean the crib with Windex then sand it down (use extra fine sand paper) to scruff off the shiny coat and give it some grit to have the primer and paint stick to. Then clean it off again and let it dry. Prime and let dry then check to see if you need another coat. Then paint once primer is dry per instructions on can. Let paint dry then decide if you need a second coat. I used a satin Benjamin Moore paint and this primer. No top coat. 
It is really time consuming but I love the finished project so much. 
I painted ours a deep royal blue to match the blue in his blanket. Let me know if you have questions!

Super cute!  There are paints you can google.  I believe lullaby is one brand.  Perfectly safe for expected mothers and little ones.  😊

I think there are special paint brands that are non toxic for kids, important because mine would teethe on their cribs. I actually like the wood color but if your walls are light you could do a grey color, I've seen some boys' rooms with grey furniture lately and it looks nice.  My sons have white furniture because they share a room so I preferred a lighter color, and I  got a white dresser with straight lines so it didn't look girly.

I painted a changing table, I did it with the garage door open and a heathy breeze. They also sell nose and mouth covers that i used and I wore gloves.
