Should animals be referred to as children?

I refer to mine as my babies. Yes I know they're not human and not actually my children. But I love them and raised them. If someone doesn't like it then bye.

My dogs are my babies! Does that make them equal to my actual children? No. but pretty dang close. I do believe dogs are members of the family though, and should be treated as so!

Maybe a better wording of the question would explain more. I call my pets my babies all the time. They aren't much different, but I don't think they HAVE to be called babies

If I said to you

Yea first I get up and find poop had exploded all over the place
Then I kept having to take stuff from them that they can't put in their mouths 
Potty training just isn't going so well and I'm getting frustrated. 
And to top it all off they cried all. Night. Long.

Am I talking about my toddler or my new puppy? They are basically the same things lol expect one came out of me and one didnt. I do not find it insulting or degrading in any way to mothers. Anyone who is actually offended is just ridiculous

I have a boy dog and I call him my baby or my "son" sometimes . I raised him since he came out his moms belly(I also have her) and he sleeps with me & I take care of him like he's my child so why not ....

I think it's weird and I cringe a little everytime I see the word "fur baby" but that's just because I don't get it. I don't like animals and I can't see fathom loving an animal like that but I understand sort of. People love their animals and their pets help them cope with things and are funny and are a part of the family. I said no because I think it's weird, but generally it's not an issue.

I mean, I say my dog is my first born/my baby....but in a playful way. I don't think it's weird...I suppose it could be strange depending on how serious someone is about it...

Lets just tell old moms to stop calling their 30 year old kids their babies too. Seriously who cares?

I just feel like having a pet is NOT the same as or equal to having a child or children. It just isn't. I'm not saying pets can't be deeply loved or well cared for or don't require a lot of time and/or work, nor am I saying there's anything wrong with fur babies. But pets are not children. They're just not.
