Since we are all having our babies for the holidays I'm curious on how to handle everyone wanting to hold/touch my baby! I'm a first time mom and I come from a hugggge Italian family with lots of little kids. I'm worried with Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve , New Years.. etc. do you just tell everyone wash your hands before holding the baby? Or have hand sanitizer ready for them? And do they have to use hand sanitizer every time they want to hold the baby? do I tell them not to touch her face? I'm a first time mom so I'm clueless !!

That's your kid and as a mama, you want to protect them in every way. I don't care who it is, WASH YOUR HANDS!! Even dad. You can't be to careful and that's so many people at the germiest time of the year. No wash, no baby. Dems the rules lol

Not saying it's not a good idea, but I never asked anyone to wash hands and my son never got sick. I've never been a germ freak because I know it's good to not be too clean or you'll never build up an immunity to anything. I have been this way with my son his whole life and he's 5 and only been sick twice.

This is my second baby, but I'm also a nurse. I will definitely be asking everyone to wash their hands before touching/holding the baby.

I just want people to not attempt to play pass the baby. So I'm planning on hoarding him to myself for the first two holidays. Haha. I think there is nothing wrong with you asking people to wash their hands or use sanitizer.

Wash for sure, and no kissing baby's face or hands. Period. And this is my 3rd. I'll probably baby wear for a while at the festivities.

I'm asking everyone to sanitize when entering hospital room and I'll be asking them to hid her with a receiving blanket between her and them in case she's sensitive to their dyes or perfume

Definitely make them wash their hands. They're too little to be trying to fight all these germs off

If they want to hold the baby, they will need to wash their hands please.

Honestly, I know it must sound like a rude thing to do. But I always made sure my family and everyone else had clean hands before they would touch my new born children. And it's not because I think everyone is dirty or I wanted to be a b*tch. It's just I feel like our babies are so brand new to this outside world & I was always afraid of them getting sick or catching something, especially so young. I don't even travel or take them outside that very much, during their 1st month. Especially during the cold season's, because of the flu and all the coughing & germs going around. Maybe it's just a mama's fear....😖

I've got a little bit of a different thing going on. My son won't just be a newborn during cold/flu season..... he also won't be getting breastfed (I take a medication that is leached into breastmilk). So he won't even have the benefit of colostrum/breastmilk. My son will be washing hands..... for sure..... as for the rest? I plan to babywear at these functions and not play the 'pass the baby' game. DHs family get together will have a lot of out of towners and they are known boundary stompers. It is easier to put a 'no baby holding' rule in place vs being selective of who can hold him and then having to deal with hurt feelings and drama later.
