Why would you? Unless you're planning on eating it raw all the bacteria will die from the heat of cooking... I'm not understanding why anyone would...

I rinse my chicken with vinegar and water prior to cooking .. when I'm done cooking I bleach my sink

Sometimes I'll rinse a fish fillet and then pat it dry before adding seasoning to help rid any excess fishy flavor and also help it absorb the seasoning more, but I don't wash any of my other meats prior to cooking. It seems pointless, as cooking to the right internal temp will kill any bacteria anyway. The only things you really want to wash are food items that you eat raw or cook at lower temps, likes fruits and veggies. My best friends hubby is a health inspector for the county, and told her that washing meats prior to cooking actually puts you at greater risk for cross contamination, and even washing fish isn't necessary, but I'll still rinse a fish fillet from time to time. Also, sometimes I'll buy steaks or pork chops that are pre-seasoned, so wouldn't want to wash away all the flavor.

It is actually more dangerous to rinse your chicken. Rinsing any meat is not effective, because all the bacteria doesn't just wash off with water. If you wash the chicken, you risk splashing contaminated everywhere, and actually doing more harm than good. If you simply put the meat into the thing that you're cooking in, and cook it thoroughly, you'd have less of a chance of getting sick.
