I worked in the jewelry industry for 6 years and have sold these before . They have real diamond chips in it . But the chips are so small so it brings the price down A TON. Most of the people you see buying these are on a major strict (low) budget and have flashy taste . I wouldn't go as far to say they aren't engagement rings , people like what they like and can afford what they can afford . But these types of rings are not good quality materials and aren't built well so the stones will fall out easily .

Those are called cluster settings and personally I am not a fan of most of them but I have seen some that are really pretty.  They are like this because melee diamonds (small diamonds) are very inexpensive so its easier to make giant princess (other other shape) that looks like a 3 carat stone but its actually a cluster.  From a distance you cant tell the difference usually.

Personally I think the really enormous clusters (ie trying to make it look like a 5carat diamond) are a little tacky.  But then again I think a 5 carat diamond is a little tacky.  😜

Oh I hate these things. I see their point but not up to me what girls accept as their diamonds. I wouldn't wear anything like this but I hate jewlery anyway..
