Glucose test. What to expect?

So my doctor didn't really explain what's happening at my one hour glucose test coming up. I drink something and give blood correct? Should I eat and drink normally beforehand or whAt?

My doctor said I can eat and drink before but to lie and say I haven't when I get to the hospital. He did however say not to eat or drink anything too sugary or I will fail. No cereals or pancakes and orange juice. I think I'm going to have scrambled eggs and wheat toast with just water  that morning and go in not long after. He said they will check me in and give me five minutes to drink the drink he gave me. After that I sit for an hour and then they take my blood. He said I can go to the bathroom and all that if I need to and he said it's much simpler than its made out to be. His basic rules were don't have anything too sugary and don't tell them I ate or drank anything. He said because it's a screening for him he doesn't mind if I eat. The reason they are strict is for when they are actually testing other people and need specifics. If we fail this one then we do fast for the three hour test to get those specifics so if we can just pass this one we are fine.

Can you urinate or do you have to hold it?

I was given a drink to drink at home. People say the drink is awful but I didn't think it was bad at all. I kept it cold and poured it over ice. Had to be at the doctors one hour later where they pricked my finger and checked my sugar. Depending on what your sugar is you either pass or you have to go back for a three hour test. 
That's how it happened for me at least.
