When will the acne recede?

Will I ever be acne free? I know that at 18 I can't expect it to be gone yet but I've had it since I was about 12. As a makeup artist, my face is my canvas and having all these bumps and scars gets so frustrating. Anyone know how acne reacts as we age? I'm on birth control and I wash my face 2x daily etc etc. and have been to a dermatologist. It's not bad, but I just want a clear complexion. Thanks!
