Membrane sweep? Yes or no?

39 weeks today and had my weekly appt today. (Baby girl is dropped but heads not engaged yet, ugh). My midwife told me that at the next appointment they do a membrane sweep. I've already read that its uncomfortable and hurts a bit (the midwife also explained this) but I'm wondering if you've had one before and if it worked. What are your experiences?

Had one at 38 weeks with first baby I gave birth at 39 weeks second baby he did the sweep at 37 weeks I had him at the end of 38 weeks yes it hurts and yes it works

I've had it done twice. Both times it wasn't painful at all. She said the times it is painful is when the cervix isn't able to be reached easily so they have to basically grab it and move it into place to be able to perform the membrane sweep. So the actual painful part isn't even the sweep. Hopefully your cervix is favorable 😊

I had one with my son. It hurts but my water broke 2 days later and I went into labor.  Have a new doctor now and he refuses to do them. Says if you are to the point you can have one you'll more than likely go on your own anyways. I'm kind of sad he won't try it because I believe it is what worked for me!

My friend had it done at 39 weeks and was already dialated to 3 cm when they did it. She never mentioned it being painful. She also did evening primrose oil vaginally the two nights after the sweep and she went until labor the 3rd night.

I had mine done today. Took all of 2 seconds and didn't hurt at all. Definitely not what I expected based off many stories on this app. That was about 4 hours ago and nothing yet!

I just had mine done today! I will keep you posted but I will tell you it hurt bad! And I was already dilated 3cm. Just warning you.
