first gynecologist visit?

I am turning 21 in december so im gonna have to start going to get check ups. How was your first gynecology experience? Any tips so its not awkward? Im very closed off, when going for physicals and having to wear a goen i always bought a tank top and shorts with me because i just dont feel comfortable exposing myself even to doctors lol

It's not bad. They'll ask you if you want to have blood drawn for an std test & then they'll take you back to a room, where you'll have time to change into a gown (they'll also give you a sheet to cover with.) you'll have a female nurse if your gyno is male. The Pap smear takes less than 2 minutes usually & isn't painful. They use lube & it's kinda like a q-tip that they insert for the Pap smear. Try not to stress but definitely talk to your doctor about any concerns & definitely relay that it's your first appointment. It's really not that bad & just a once a year thing.
