opinions on IUD's?

Haven't done much research on them yet, but because of my medical history I can't take any form of hormone releasing birth control. Anyone have good/bad experiences with an IUD?

It was not painful for me at all, only one strong cramp but it literally lasted for half a second. It is uncomfortable but not painful. I was relaxed as I really was looking forward to finally having iud, which probably made it not painful at all. But I had cramps for a couple of days after. Now I tend to forget that I have it, as I don't feel any difference at all :) (its been about 2 weeks since insertion). I suggest just relax, and think of something positive during the process.

If you haven't had children yet, expect it to hurt a lot. I couldn't handle the pain of getting one and I had to tell them to stop before they even got it in. But, a lot of women say that the pain is worth it and I haven't seen too many horror stories about them.
