Painful Braxton hicks?

I always get braxton hicks and they can be uncomfortable at times but since last night I keep getting them and they are actually painful. Like pretty bad period cramps in my lower stomach pelvic area. The pain lasts the whole contraction then goes away. But they are not consistent they are kind of all over the place so i dont think its labor or atleast not yet. Is this normal to be painful with braxton hicks? This is my second baby and dont remember them being painful but just uncomfortable. Im 31 weeks 2 days pregnant just wonder what your ladies input is. TIA
