What if our justice systems were like this?

Okay. This is entirely theoretical, but I thought if it because I saw a facebook post about some asshole pouring acid on a cat's face. Every time I see posts like this, if you go in the comments, about 75% of them are about the things that they themselves would do to the criminal who did this to an innocent creature/baby/child/ etc.

So what if our justice system worked like this? What if, when you committed a crime (against another person/animal), you had the choice of either going to jail.....or living out the same amount if time you'd have spent in jail with it being publicly known that ANYONE is allowed to legally do the SAME THING to you?

So, rapist rapes someone. He has a choice of going to jail, or it being perfectly legal to rape him.

Animal abuser ties puppies in a bag and tosses them in a lake. He can go to jail....or it becomes perfectly legal to TIE HIM IN A BAG AND TOSS HIM IN A LAKE.

Do you think this would make people less inclined to commit heinous crimes?

Do you think it would make people worse, because the instant something evil becomes legal, they'd just do it to do it?

I think it would completely destroy what's left of anyone's humanity.

If we do to them what they do to someone else that makes us NO BETTER than them.

Don't rapists, etc and those who harm children and women already have "bad stuff" happen to them in jail? That doesn't make anyone more inclined not to commit crime.

As much as I want people to feel the pain of their crimes, it goes against the basic human rights. Serving time is about the most humane thing we can do legally. 
Now, whatever other people do to them who aren't in the government.....

I think people are so frustrated with some of things that occur in the world that their hearts ache for justice, for vengeance. The internet and the keyboard make for an easy sounding board, but in reality, few people could stomach following through with their threats or even comprehend the depth of what it would really mean to practice "an eye for an eye".

I think it would destroy humanity, slowly. It might reduce crime, it might not, but to sink to the level of criminals in order to receive retribution is a despicable idea and I feel it would turn the very heart of humanity black.

I think it would turn everyone into animals. Just because someone is sick enough to do that shit, the person doing it back would be equally as sick.

I usually say, "wow I hope someone rapes and kills them" or "wow I hope they get tied up and thrown into a lake" but my entire family is in the justice system (not criminals lol, they work for them) and I truly like our justice system. You do wrong, you go to jail. Court is a different story because the jury decides on a lot which I don't think is always right but I believe law enforcement does try to see it like we do and there is just so much they can do. As long as they're off the street, fine by me.
