What do I do now?

Question

Yesterday I was diagnosed with type2 herpes and said that it was pretty bad & swollen. So when I finally gave up on trying to pee myself, I took myself to the ER and got a catheter. I had 700ml of urine in my bladder😳. I have three different RXs they prescribed me to fight it off but what do I do once those meds are gone? I know that I'll have it forever, but how do I limit how much I get the symptoms down as much as I can? Do I need to be on RX meds forever or over the counter? Natural remedies?
I never thought this would happen to me so I didn't really pay much attention in high school when we learned about it.

Also, is this a common thing? I lost my mind when the dr told me I had herpes. But some of the more supportive people in my life have told me that it's more common than I think & not to over think it.

When i first found out i was very very upset. i was afraid nobody would ever want me and thought dating would be impossible. but a year after being diagnosed i met the most wonderful man and he does it mind at all. he accepts me and understands that shit happens and he doesn't judge me because of it. in the year and a half that i've been diagnosed i've had 5 outbreaks including the initial. i figured out that my trigger was stress. ever since i stopped stressing about having genital and oral herpes, i stopped having outbreaks. it's the same with work and school and my love life. if i stress and start breaking out on my face i generally will end up with a herpes outbreak in my genital area. i've learned ways to keep myself from stressing to relax. my doctor has me keep acyclovir in medicine cabinet just in case i have an outbreak but i only take it when i have one. right now i have been outbreak free since August 1st. i was going through a tough time and the stress and anxiety led to an outbreak prior to that i had went 8 months without an outbreak and that was when i realized stress was my trigger. keep your genital area clean always, use condoms if you're not in a committed realtonship. keep  your head up! it's not the end of the world!!

I take 1 gram of Valtrex daily. You don't have to do this, but it's what I've chosen to do. My outbreaks were triggered by my period, so every time I had my period an outbreak would occur. Since starting to take Valtrex every day I haven't had an outbreak. Depending on how bad your outbreaks are your doctor will see what works best for you. Like if you don't have them as often then you don't need to take medicine daily only when you have an outbreak, or if you are like me and getting them all the time then they'll write you a script to see if taking medication daily will help.

Hi! I was diagnosed last summer and had about 2-3 outbreaks this year (I'm still learning the hang of it) 😁 I can only say that it does get better, your first outbreak willdefinitely be your worst. I only took medicine when I had an outbreak but I'm planing on not having more. As far as I know herpes is an immune dissearase meaning your body will fight an outbreak. Medicine is for soothing the symptoms but it won't heal you. I can also recommend baths with Epsom salt that are really soothing when you feel that something is up. Otherwise know your triggers and try to boost your immune system as much you can. A healthy immune system will result in fewer outbreaks. Good luck 😋

I'd say find out what your triggers are. Pay close attention to your body. It could be stress, sugar, alcohol. Just watch how your body reacts to certain foods & environments. I stopped taking the Rx because I didn't want to be dependent on it. Everyone is different, however. I read that some girls on here only take the Rx if an OB happens, to speed up the healing process.
