Jump to IVF? Or is it too soon?

We've been trying over a year. We are on cycle #16. We have done all of the normal testing, and we're fine. All of the numbers are great on paper but we're not getting pregnant and we're only 25, and thus we fall into the terrifying "unexplained fertility" category. We did one IUI with no drugs, which failed. Now we are doing an IUI with injectables. I was talking to my RE today and she suggested jumping to IVF if this IUI fails. She says that with unexplained fertility, more IUIs might end up being a waste of time and money based on whatever our problem is (which of course we don't know). But IVF would probably work and it's where we'd eventually be headed anyways. What do you ladies, who have been down this road think? If insurance will cover most of it (supposedly we will hit out deductible and it should) should we do it? Do IVF in December? Is it too soon after only two IUIs?

My clinic said if IUIs are going to work it would typically work in the first three tries.  I ended up trying a 4th because the timing was so perfect that I thought maybe the stars were alinged. Not the case!

We went to IVF after four failed medicated IUIs. My endocrinologist cautioned against trying IUIs with gonadatropins (injectables) because they could not control the number of eggs produced and the risk of a large number of pregnancies was great and the risk of needing to cancel the cycle due to too many eggs was also great.

We had unexplained infertility as well and I am successfully carrying twins to full term right now. We did one IVF cycle.  Got 21 eggs total and ended up freezing 5 total. We decided on the recommended frozen embryo transfer because I needed to give my body time to rest and the success rates were significantly higher with FET cycles.  I highly suggest the FET with meds.  I'm guessing our issue was either fertilization (which is unlikely because we had a miscarriage previously without any intervention) or implantation.  If implantation was the likely culprit the estrogen patches and the progesterone shots were likely what did the trick. This is literally my same story..... I am 26 hubby is 24. Trying for a year and a half no luck. Every single test normal. First iui with no meds nothing. Did theee more with pills and still nothing. They said either injectables or IVF. We opted for IVF as insurance didn't cover any meds so why put the money towards them when IVF needed them too and had such a better %. We were diagnosed unexplained fertility (possible endo but no real proof) all through even IVF tests but I am currently 18 weeks preggo from our first fresh IVF cycle back in July. I am sooooooo happy we didn't spend the money on any more iuis. I only had theee eggs retrieved, put back two, and one little baby girl is growing now!

I'm doing IVF after one clomid cycle and one IUI cycle. I think it depends on your situation to decide what makes sense for you. I don't think it's too soon personally.

We did IVF after 2 failed IUI's. We didn't want to spend more money and we just knew IUI wasn't gonna work because we found out I had LUFS, well we got pregnant on our first IVF. Our insurance doesn't cover anything for fertility treatments but it was worth it

It's better to start IVF and lot of clinics does some diagnostic tests and procedures before actually starting IVF like HSG, hysteroscopy and lot of blood works &ultrasounds. So I'd say don't push for December and let them skip things in between. I wish you all the best and I hope you hold your baby soon!!👍

I was in the exact same position as you. I was 26 I had one miscarriage under my belt and wasn't getting pregnant after a year. All our tests cake back great and we were considered unexplained. The thing about doing ivf is you often find out what's actually preventing you from conceiving. So for that unexplained category it's often diagnostic as well. After 2 cycles we determined at 26 with great fsh and great AMH I had kind of bad quality eggs. We worked on it and after 3 ivf cycles I got pregnant. I am 10 weeks with a healthy pregnancy. If you can afford it I would go right to ivf, we did.
