Do you have to be dilated to do a membrane sweep?

I'm 39 weeks with baby #4. I've never had it done before.

Im interested to know and also my dr brought up doing it at 39 weeks but im strep B positive. Does anyone know if its dangerous to do so then? ?

Yes my doctors office wont do it unless you are at least 2 cm.

My OB told me that can't do it unless you are dilated. I went in for my last appt and she was gonna do it but couldn't cuz I wasn't dilated :(

Yeah... I'm at 1cm. My doc tried to do a sweep today, but he has really big hands and couldn't get his finger in my cervix far enough to do it. 😢 I considered asking the nurse if she'd give it a try instead. Oh well, I only have to wait another 6 days for my induction. 😕

My dr said yes you had to be dilated 1st. I had one done today at 1cm, but she said it normally only works if you are a couple cm. Anyone ever has it work at 1cm??

My doc won't do them until at least 2 cm dilated

From what I understand,  you have to be at least 1cm dilated so that the doctor can separate the membrane from the uterus through the cervix.
