eczema??

My 3 month old has really bad eczema any thing that could help ? His doctor tried to give him hydrocortisone but he said he would cause depigmitaion or how ever you spell it .. anyhelp ?

My son has it and uses hydrocortisone. I have not noticed any issues with his skin color. The dermatologist told us I shouldn't stop eating certain food unless it causes really bad flare up for baby. The reason is that by eliminating certain food groups, it will lead to nutrition deficiency for the mum and baby. The worse case is when baby grows up and tries the food, lead to breathing difficulties for the child and consequently being admitted to the hospital.

Like many have suggested,  I have noticed moisturizering, oatmeal baths, probiotics and fish oil seems to help keep flare ups.

My baby's eczema was from eggs in my diet while breastfeeding. Once I quit eating eggs it cleared up. Finally around a year old she quit reacting to them. It could be a food allergy for your babe.

I never used hydrocortisone on my baby. I have had eczema my whole life and my son had it too when he was only a few months old, it was all over his body! It was awful and broke my heart. I took him to the dermatologist and I don't think it was very helpful.
You can give him an oatmeal bath, especially one designed for eczema. And moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!! I used Eucerin specially formulated for Eczema on my son, and then I used a plain white thick non-scented lotion, usually cetaphil (I think). Try not to bath your baby too often, maybe twice a week. And always moisturize immediately after bathing. Moisturize daily.
I didn't use any prescription creams on my baby because they can be damaging sometimes.
The most important thing about eczema isn't clearing it up, but preventing it. Daily moisturization really helps, that's what kept my son's eczema at bay. Once a rash flares up it's very hard to get rid of, so prevent as much as you can!
Also if the rash has really flared up, try aquaphor. It's thick and will create a barrier to protect the skin and give it time to heal.

Whether you're breastfeeding or formula feeding, you have to rule out food sensitivities. My son started getting eczema around the same age. I was exclusively breastfeeding him and cut out different foods from my diet to see what could be the cause of his eczema. Turned out that milk/dairy in any form in my diet would cause him to break out. Cutting out dairy from my diet was luckily all it took to do the trick. I know of other breastfeeding moms who had to cut out soy as well. You can ask his dr or look online for ideas on what to eliminate from your diet and how to do it. Or if you formula feed, try a dairy free formula. If that doesn't help you may have to spring for a soy free formula as well. My cousin had to do that for her son bc she was only formula feeding him. It can be pricey but it's a necessity when they're suffering with itchy/painful eczema.

My son had it too he was given that cream and dipbrobase. (He had a reaction to the steroid cream)  But I hear olive oil in the bath is just as affective. My son is now six he's out grown the eczema but is still prone to very dry skin. Good luck. Xx

My daughter and I both have dry skin/eczema, and I use cetaphil moisturizing cream for both of us. It has to be the thick cream though, not the lotion. I bathe her every other day, pay her dry and lotion her right away.  I also option dry patches as needed even on no-bath days. My pediatrician says regular cetaphil is safe for her since it has no dyes or fragrances so we just share mine, no need to buy the baby-specific kind.

I have eczema too and my doctor said that about hydrocortisone too. But he also said that only happens if you use excess amounts at the same time. I've been using hydrocortisone for over 15 years now with no problems. The only reason I have pigmentation is because of the eczema itself.
