How to know if my baby sucks milk or only the nipple?

Sometime I hear the flow of the milk  to my baby's stomach while breastfeeding , but sometimes I don't. How to know if my baby is really sucking milk or only using my nipples as a pacifier???

To me, they feel completely different. When my baby is nursing, it's almost like I can feel my boob getting empty with the pressure of each suckle (and I can hear and see her swallowing). When she's just pacifying, it's more like she's just gumming my nipple. Not sure if that makes any sense, but that's how I can tell.

Trust me u will knoow.. i get a pinch in my boob when milk is coming out and another thing is my other boob starts leaking haha thats how i know baby is drinking his milk it takes a min for the milk to come so they suck till it comes

How old is your baby?

If your baby is younger than 3 months, you may want to allow comfort nursing when possible. My reasoning is that 1) you will make more milk 2) baby will get to know you faster and will be easier to calm once he knows you 3) likely longer stretches of sleep.
After 3-4 months pacifier/sucking is just a habit. For me, my baby started refusing her pacifier and comfort nursing at 9 weeks. I introduced a pacifier at 10 days because my girl was non stop comfort nursing. Although I do think it was necessary for me to introduce the pacifier, I do wish I wouldn't have used it as much as I did. Once I started allowing more comfort nursing my baby got WAY easier to handle.
