EWCM and ovulation

So I know that you can get an LH surge/positive opk but still not ovulate. How about EWCM? Is EWCM a definitive sign of ovulation, or can you get EWCM but still not ovulate? I guess I'm wondering if temping is my only way to know for sure that I am ovulating.
