why is there a neg association with pacis I don't get it?

Why is there a negative association with pacifiers? I don't get it. Anything wrongly used is a problem, can see down the road how it could be detrimental for dental but initially when my baby wants to comfort suck right after an hour of breastfeeding... or other situations I don't see the problem. So many differing opinions... please share yours

We introduced one at about 3 weeks. Now she really only uses it to fall asleep at nap time. She's 4 months. Considering it can help lower the chance for SIDS I do not understand either.

I will say my niece and nephew used theirs until 3. It caused some speech problems but I don't see an issue with use for infants.

I've seen people cite concerns about sanitization, orthodontic development, nipple confusion, potentially difficult weaning, $$$, & developing other forms of self soothing

Personally, we will offer it if baby is receptive.

My LO is a week and some days old right now, and I'm not giving her one just yet. I don't want her to confuse it for hunger, and I don't have a problem with her sucking for comfort (she only spends 10-20 minutes on the boob). If she wants one in a few weeks, then I'd be open to giving it to her!

But when I was a baby, I was addicted to the paci and my parents weren't able to wean me until I was almost 3. I had to wear a retainer for two years (and a four year old keeping up with a retainer is not fun for parents), and still needed braces later on.

why is there a neg association with pacis I don't get it?
