when to start baby registry

Question

I really screwed up when I built my wedding registry I.e. We didn't get many useful things. So I really wanna take my time to do the baby registry. So a couple questions:

1) when is it too early to start building it?
     (When did you start)
2) What things did you register for that were lifesavers? Bummers?
3) What didn't you register for that you wish you had?

In my opinion, it's never too early to start your registry. I started at about 18 weeks and constantly added and deleted items online whenever something came across my mind. I don't think family and friends actually search for it..they'll just wait until they have your baby shower information to see where you're registered, so the chance of people seeing it before it's complete is pretty slim. 
We registered for everything except clothes. People will buy baby clothes regardless, and I had already bought quite a bit of clothing on my own. Oh and we didn't register for her nursery furniture because I wanted to have her room finished before the baby showers, so we bought all of that ourselves.
The most used items from our registry are her Pack n Play, Rock n Play, activity mat, Infant to Toddler Rocking Chair, bath tub, travel system, crib mattress, Skip Hop diaper bag, receiving blankets and burp cloths. 
I ended up returning a Medela breast milk storage set (I use bags instead), Lansinoh breastfeeding starter kit (didn't end up needing it), Baby K'Tan (I couldn't figure it out lol), and a Bumbo seat (decided against it once I got a different type of seat), 
Also, we did a diaper raffle at both of our showers and scored thousands of diapers..I highly recommend doing one! You can always exchange what you're given for the brands/sizes that you need. My baby girl is 9 weeks old and we still have months worth of diapers left! 
Keep in mind stores offer a registry completion discount for any items not purchased so just add any and everything that you think you'll want. Have fun! 😊

Don't register for baby washcloths or towels.... register for regular washcloths if you don't have any.  The baby ones are worthless IMO.

Our first we started at like 11 weeks. This one we started at 8 weeks. This time around we are buying everything off it but just did it for the babies r us rewards.

We really liked the rock and play. If you are using babies r us register for everything. That way you can buy stuff too and get money back after you have the baby.

Honestly don't remember when we registered.

Things that were great so far... his little bouncer/rock n play, and definitely the pack n play because that's what he's still sleeping in right now in our room (but I'd have gone simple and just registered for any that had the bassinet insert, but ours came with like a napper and changer and I don't think we ever used them)...

Extras of things like crib/pack n play sheets, changing pad covers or liners, etc so that every time he spit up all over them or accidentally had a diaper blow out, we had backups ready. And we could never have too many burp cloths!

I think I got more blankets than I knew what to do with though lol, I probably didn't need to register for any because people just gave us blankets, so I got ones we registered for and then some!

We registered when we found out the sex. I wish I would have put a convertible car seat on there because we got a lot from out registry and I know someone would have gotten that. Boppy I love love love best gift ever

I started researching things like cribs, monitors, swings, bottles all right away and compiling things in a registry. For us the biggest waste was the Rock n Play, although most babies love it, mine hates it. She LOVES her swing though, that's been our lifesaver. My other favorite items are the Nose Frida, the Lawn drying rack (we bottle feed), my BOB Revolution stroller, Sakura Bloom ring slings, Mama and Little teething jewelry, Dock-A-Tot, and Tubby Todd bath products.

I started creating mine at 14 weeks! I'm a FTM, so I depended a lot on my own moms advice. 😊 She told me not to be shy with my registry; if I need it, add it. I included items in every price range, but didn't automatically pick the cheapest options trying to bolster its chance of being bought.

Big ticket items were the crib with mattress, travel system, changing table and the glider + ottoman. Middle range stuff included the activity mat, swing, jumper, pack n play, baby carrier, bath tub, boppy, muslin swaddle blankets, bottles, drying rack, wipe warmer, diaper bag, and sound machine. And lower budget but greatly appreciated things like pacifiers, bibs and toiletries.

I did NOT register for diapers, wipes, clothes, or(for the very most part), toys. People love to gift those things regardless of the registry, so I waited until post shower to see how we'd fair there. We were incredibly fortunate and blessed in the end to need for very little else.

Since I'm yet to have baby I'm not sure what will end up being the most awesome and useful things, and what will be less used than expected just yet. Soon enough. :)
