I have two good friends who are infant and child deietitans and neither of them recommend rice/oatmeal/processed cereal at all for babies. It is nutritionally void, bland (not great for developing taste buds), highly processed and not as easy to digest as some may think. And most people introduce it way too young, before their digestive track is mature enough to really handle it. They believe you are setting your baby up to a bland palet and also that nutritionally speaking, it just isn't useful. I just skipped cereals altogether with my kids, went straight for read food like produce.

Where are you from?  I'm in the US and we just call that "baby cereal".  Here we have rice, oatmeal, and mixed grain baby cereals.
