Did you let your baby 'cry it out'

Did you use CIO method of sleep training?

Answer

By letting him learn to fall asleep on his own at an early age, we've avoided sleep training and sleep regressions. He sleeps 11-12 hours at night without waking. That said, I'll let him cry it out for 10 minutes max and only if it's a certain type of cry. Screams get immediate attention.

I recommend Precious Little Sleep blog and fb group. CiO has a bad rap but actually there's many different levels of it and lots of science behind it. A lot of sleep groups are very judgemental - i know because I was judgemental myself ie crying is abuse. I was so horrified ppl would do this. Then after 2 weeks with 0 sleep, distraught, guess what, we started sleep training.  She was crying all day anyway bc she was exhausted from not sleeping! Anyway, all that to say let's just support each others choices. Xoxo

Yes and no.... my daughter is 5 months and she already slept and awaken every day at the same time 8:30-8:30. And she started to sleep at 11am. So now we wake her up at 1:30-2 and put her down for another nap at 3:30-4. We wake her up again at 5:30 to be sleep for the night at 8. I EBF and finally she only wakes up once at night as compared to 3. And we just put her to sleep drowsy but awake. Sometimes she goes straight to sleep and others she talks for a while and whines a little before falling asleep. If she cries, we don't let her go past 5-10 minutes before trying to help her calm down and trying again. If she won't sleep (for a nap) we then take her to play for 30 minutes and feed her again before attempting the nap. It has worked for us.

We did the chair method and had a little bit of crying with it. Now she falls asleep on her own and only wakes once or twice at night instead of every two hours.

My daughter is turning 4 soon, and I never sleep trained. We co-sleep but she is starting to use her own bed (i am having another baby just before her birthday).
