Membrane sweep question

I'm 39 weeks 2cm and 50% effaced. Today my doctor swept my membranes and it hurt pretty bad for me. Since then I've had a lot of pelvic pressure, some brown discharge, and some pretty frequent cramps. I'm curious to know if that means I could be on my way to labor or if that is just what happens after a sweep? What have your experiences been?
