Having your kid with you in the delivery room?

Hi ladies! So I was just curious everyone's opinion about having one of your kids with you in the room when you deliver. My oldest daughter (who's 10 years old) was asking me the other day if she can be in the room with me with I give birth to her new baby sister. I don't know how I feel about doing that. Part of me wants to let her be in the room because she has mentioned already that she can't wait to have kids of her own and I'm NOT ready to have grandkids before I turn 30. But another part of me doesn't want to allow her to be in the room because I feel like that would be somewhat.....traumatizing. And also I don't even know if the hospital I am delivering at would even allow for her to be in the room, but I'm still just curious of other opinions, and personal experiences. Thanks ladies!!

If my hospital allowed it and my daughter asked to be there, I'd let her. I don't think she needs to be at the end of the bed, but she could be at the head or sitting on one of the chairs in the room. I'd also have someone else there (aside from my husband) in case she decided it was too much. I'm pretty open with my daughter! 🙂

Well my 10 yr old was in the room when I was going through contractions...not pushing yet. He was so stressed out, because he didn't know what to do to help or why I was in so much pain so my mom took him to stay the night with a couple from our church. Every kid is different but he had a hard time seeing me in pain.

I was in the room when my baby sister was born.  I was 7 at the time and my uncle and aunt were standing right outside the door in case I needed to leave and I just sat on my grandma's lap

Am 32 and went into my sister in laws birth and felt so bad seeing her in pain and unable to help.

I think personally think young children should not be in the delivery room, it can leave bad effects.

I was at the birth of my youngest brother when I was 9, and honestly the birth was a bit complicated and there was a lot of blood but all I remember seeing was that tiny little person and thinking omg this is mad. The midwives were great and got me involved I held the oxygen to him as he was a bit blue (with supervision obviously) my bond with him is stronger than with my other siblings. Every child is at a different place emotionally at that age, only you know your child, maybe have a back up if it's too much so she can leave without you having to stress about it

I would say no. No child needs to witness that. We were forced to see a video in high school and it was awful. I didn't  want to see that!

Show her a video of what is gonna be going on. If she doesn't seem to be grossed out I say you should go ahead and have her in there.

At ten seeing childbirth would have definitely traumatized me. It's great that she wants to be there but I don't think she realizes how much pain you'll be in and seeing you that way might upset her. If it's something you're comfortable with maybe let her watch a childbirth video and see how she deals with it and then decide
