I'm not doing it unless she feels it's medically necessary. What's the point? Say you are like, 2 cm dilated? Now every twinge or small cramp you'll get overly excited and think THIS IS IT or thing that every ache and pain is a "pre-labor sign" when really it's no different than how you've been feeling this entire pregnancy.

In my opinion knowing just causes people to get antsy. I don't need to or want to know.

My doctor asked if I wanted her to check, and I said yes. So it's not necessarily routine, but I also didn't go out of my way to ask her to check. Even though it doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot it's still nice to know if there has been any progress.it makes me feel like it's an actual possibility that she may decide to come...lol.

Personally I like to know if I'm progressing but that doesn't change how I approach every little twinge and cramp etc. If my water hasn't broken and my contractions aren't timeable or close together then I assume I'm not in labor. Early labor means nothing. You could be in prodromal labor for weeks even. But this is my 2nd baby so I also know even if I'm checked and come up as nothing that could easily change.
