Antibiotics and birthcontrol?

Hey ladies i need some help. I have been on antibiotics for the last 10 days and im currently on the nuva ring. Can antibiotics mess the effectiveness of my birthcontrol?

No. General antibiotics do not effect birth control. Side effects like vommiting and dirrarhea only effect oral birth control.

The only antibiotics that can effect the effectiveness of all birth control are Rifabutin/Rifampicin and their derivitives, as they are enzmye inducing and change how the body metabolises the hormones.

I have been told both, my ob/gyn and my pcp both say reg. Anti-biotics won't mess with it, some one above posted the names of the ones that do, but I have a specialist I see that says better to be safe and use back up then sorry.
