Hmong Traditions?

So recently a girl who works at my uni's library has been taking less shifts because her "husband" won't let her. She told my friend that her boyfriend told her they were going to dinner then took her to his parents' house. Neither of their families are very traditional, hers is even Christian, so she wasn't worried. But afterwards her mother said she couldn't come home and had to stay with him until they got married. She says he's her husband now and she can't go out except for work and school unless he says so. My friend said this is a Hmong/Buddhist traditions but I've never heard of it so now I'm curious about this and a few other things...

1. Is it true that if a Hmong boy brings a girl home to meet his family they are automatically married and she can no longer go home until it is made official?

2. Do Hmong parent's push their children to marry early?

3. Is it true children are a form of wealth and that's why so many Hmong couples have a large number of children?

Sorry if anyone is offended, I'm just so confused now. I don't know many Hmong guys I can ask and I can't talk to any of the Hmong girls I've met because they all instantly hate me even though I'm nice to them. But that's a whole different story..
