If parents are refusing to put their underage teenage daughters on birth control (when they're sexually active), then what's that going to do? they WILL do it either way, and that's just opening the door to unsafe sex, teenage pregnancy, STDS, etc. there is no sure way for you to completely control your daughter's every move, so why try. Instead, educate them, be there for them, and help them be safe.

I was put on birth control at 14 because of very heavy and painful periods. I also didn't have sex until I was 21. So, I don't believe so. I plan on putting my daughter on BC around the same age.

Nope not even a little bit. Birth control does other things besides prevent pregnancy. It can regulate cycles, decrease cramping & heavy flow as well as clear up cycle related acne. Besides, our kids are going to have sex wether we give "permission" or not.

It can go either way honestly and I think it depends on your child's personality and temperament. It also depends on your reasons for putting them on it. If you believe/know she's already having sex then chances are she's not going to stop. Some people say they'll do it anyways, but again it depends on the child. My little sister is 18 and shes fully committed to waiting a while longer to have sex. My older sister was boy crazy starting at like age 11 and probably would've used bc as an opening to have sex.

Not at all. Just shows that either way you are advising her to protect herself. I talked to my mum when I was 15 about my period being heavy and all over the place and jaw took me to the doctors and got me on the pill. Best thing she ever did for me. Just make sure you stay close and ensure her that she can come to you and talk to you about anything

I voted yes, because it wasn't specified if birth control was for any other health reason. But I don't see that as a bad thing at all. What is "underage" sex? I don't believe there is an age that determines whether or not sex is ok or not ok. Everyone would have a different answer because everyone is different. Yes, more than likely too many boys and girls are having sex before they fully understand the positives and negatives of sexual behavior, but that is good learning experiences as well. And since you can not force abstinence on someone, might as well be educated about safe sex and birth control.

Some girls go on it for their periods and they may not even be thinking about sex. But I mean, if their daughter has a boyfriend but they're not sexually active, they may put them on birth control depending on how long they've been together just in case they do have sex. I don't know, many factors have to be put into it and there are many different reasons as to why a girl may be put on birth control.

I would probably talk to my daughter about it first. Just because you're on birth control doesn't mean it's ok to have sex, but if that's what that individual chooses to do, there isn't much stopping them. I was only put on birth control after I started having sex. I've only ever had one partner,  but it didn't do much good for me. We used condoms, and I had been using birthday control pills for four months when I became pregnant.
