When to go to the hospital?

The teacher in my birthing class told me to go to the hospital when my contractions are 4 mins apart, for 1 minute each contraction, and for at least an hour (411). Just read an article that said 5 mins for 30 seconds for an hour. What is the right time to go into the hospital?

I went when I knew things were very active. I waited as long as possible. That's my advice.. when your instincts say go you go !!

Mine randomly started going all over the place when we went. One would be 10 minutes apart, the next would be 3 minutes. Then 8 minutes and then 5 minutes. I was pretty sure my water had broken (well... leaked), and the nurse told my husband over the phone for me to place a pantyliner in my underwear, and if it was saturated in and hour, to come in. It wasn't saturated, but you could tell something was there, so they told us to come in and sure enough, my water was leaking, so they kept me!
Prior to that, they told my husband to bring me in when my contractions were 3-5 minutes apart, or when I couldn't talk or really breathe through them anymore.

It really all just depends. Have the L&D number accessible and feel free to call them and ask questions! If your water breaks, go as soon as you can! It can be dangerous for the baby if you keep walking around once your water breaks.
