From what I hear it is called a sprinkle. It's just a small celebration of family and friends. No gifts maybe food just celebrate a new life.

I've heard of people doing a diaper party (bring a box of diapers for a chance to win a nice raffle prize), and some guests end up bringing gifts/cards if they want. I personally like this idea! That way it doesn't come off "greedy" but people still have a chance to bless you with gifts if they would like. Especially if they know the gender of your baby, they might be more likely to bring you clothes, etc. If I'm blessed with a second baby I think we will do a party like this.

I think you should only have one for your first. You should have all the big things and then just need clothes if it's a different gender. If you want to have a party do no gifts.

I'm struggling with this as well...we had a son first but now are expecting a daughter and we need SO MUCH STUFF...I'm hoping someone will offer to throw me one again. I feel if it's another gender it's okay. Otherwise I have heard of a sprinkle or just a diaper party.
