sleep training tips?

I have no idea how to sleep train. Anyone have any articles, books or suggestions? My baby is 5 weeks. Thinking about attempting in the next few weeks.

Your baby barely knows how to be a baby. Sleep training this early is likely to fail.

I wouldn't start "sleep training" quite yet as a newborn is not physiologically ready to sleep all the way through the night typically.  If they wake up to eat it's likely because they truly need to eat.  Some may just naturally do it earlier but that's more the exception. You can, however, start establishing a good bedtime routine and sleep habits/patterns that will help baby sleep better for naps and gradually be ready to sleep longer consecutive hours at night!

If you are breastfeeding, my concern is letting baby sleep excessive hours thru the night. That will for sure dwindle your milk supply. Babies should be nursing often. While its convenient for you to get more sleep, it will impact your breast milk production. Just something to consider.

We started sleeping training two weeks ago. Our little guy is 6 weeks old today. We used the book "The Sleep Sense Program" by Dana Obleman. It is not too early to start. I feed him through the night when he's hungry. He is able to sleep a lot longer through the night than we thought possible. Our best night yet was 10 hours straight. He also naps more regularly and for longer periods during the day now. What we thought was him being "fussy", was actually him just being overtired. I highly recommend this book!

Not ready..try in 4-6 months. For now your kid needs comfort and food on his schedule,  not yours.

Someone recommended Baby Wise to me.. But after doing some research I don't think it's for everyone. You can look into it but just keep in mind to follow your "mom gut" over what the book say.

I have used the book, Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child with all three of my boys and will read it again to refresh my brain for this baby too. All three of my boys were in bed every night between 6-6:30 and would sleep for up to 14 hours straight, PLUS would take great naps through the day. It's a great book and gives great help!!
