breast milk vs formula?

Question

We had to stay at the hospital an extra day as our little guy was loosing weight. We were attempting to breast feed and supplement with formula. We can go home today! Milk is starting to come in but still need to continue to supplement. 
Wondering if now we just go the formula route. Any thoughts?  Tia :)

my midwife said losing weight for the first 3-4 days is absolutely normal and not a reason for using formula. the important thing is that the weight loss slows down on the 3rd/4th day. this is usually when the baby has the "monster time" (wants to breastfeed all the time) and it's very important to let him as often as he/she wants even if it's ever 30min. this "monster time" ends after 24h at latest and according to my midwife is key for good breast milk supply. Your call what you wish to do. just sharing with you insight from somebody with 4000+ deliveries as well as long experience as lactation consultant. good luck! 🌸
